1937 AAR 10’-0” IH boxcars for Gulf, Mobile & Ohio

Part Number: PC-3523

Price: $319.00

In the early 1940’s, the GM&O received 1,684 boxcars of the new 1937 AAR design.  One can assume that the second order for 1,000 cars in May of 1942 was cut short due to the war materials board, and received only 684 cars.  The first 1,000 cars were built by AC&F and delivered in September 1940, under Lot 2078, and assigned Series numbers 8000-8999.  They were delivered with the Rebel Route banner on the right side with ends coated with black car cement to protect it from track spray corrosion from the car ahead en route.  The second batch of cars, reduced to 684, were delivered in May of 1942 under AC&F Lot 2344, and assigned Series numbers 5000-5683.  This Series also came with the Rebel Route banner but ends were painted car color.  Later repaint schemes dropped the banner and received a larger road name on the right side.  Protocraft Decals covers both this lettering, and by the very late 1950’s the arched Gulf, Mobile and Ohio name was used and cars painted a bright red and black ends.  See decal set GM&O-3a.

Cars came with Apex Tri-Lok running boards, Equipco power hand brake assemblies, Royal F brake adjusters, and GM&O’s unusual 9-rung ladders, Standard Railway Equipment Co’s 4/5 Dreadnaught ends incorporating the stronger round (W) corner internal braces, and improved Murphy raised panel roofs.  AC&F builder drawings supplied by the St Louis Museum of Transportation were used by Boo Rim Precision of Korea to build these beautifully crafted all brass models.  are roll on Protocraft’s all brass Bettendorf design 50-ton trucks with ball bearings, working journal covers and sintered steel rib-back wheels.
