lettering set fort 1916 ARA all-steel boxcars - 8’11” IH design as rebuilt:1936-1961

Beginning in 1937 through 1964, NYC’s Despatch Shops in East Buffalo rebuilt 1,000 boxcars from a number of older cars from Lots 330-B, 337-B, 338-B, 341-B,
342-B and 343-B. These were redesignated as Lot 658-B, and assigned Series 13000-130999. Of these cars, 40 were renumbered NYC 87000-87039.
 
During an almost identical period from 1937 through 1966, Despatch Shops rebuilt an additional 1,000 cars from Lots 417-B, 418-B and 419-B. The new lot
was designated as 659-B, and assigned Series numbers 131000-131999.
 
A third group of 1,700 car were rebuilt between 1937 and 1953 from Lots 330-B, 337-B, 338-B, 339-B, 341-B, 342-B and 343-B, and redesignated as Lot 668-B,
and assigned Series 132000-133699.
 
And between 1941 and 1961, Despatch Shops rebuilt 1,500 cars of this design from NYC Lots 330-B, 337-B, 338-B, 339-B, 341-B, 342-B and 343-B. The new
Series was 133700-135199, and designated NYC Lot 695-B.
 
Three hundred cars from this last series of the same design were rebuilt in 1941 from Lot 337-B and sent to the Canadian Government Railroads for assignment
into the Canada Southern (CASO) as series 138000-138299. See Protocraft Decals CASO-1 for this lettering scheme.

Paint & Lettering: Cars painted with NYC red-brown: TCP-221. Underbody and truck side frames coated with black car cement. Wheels and axles left unpainted
and allowed to rust and gather road grime. Lettering all white stencil paste.
Note: From 1935 to March 1944, cars were stenciled with the black backgound in the NYC oval. Beginning in March 1944 and through August 1955, the NYC
oval had a clear background. When the Gothic scheme was adopted in 1955, NYC went back to having black backgounds in the oval. This decal sheet contains
both oval medallions.
