The Gould Corporation was one of a number of truck manufacturers that built this 70-Ton Coil-Eliptic type truck with a wheel base of 5’-8”. Conventional trucks were sometimes subject to harmonic oscillation as certain speeds, and this spring arrangement with different spring rates were designed to damp out excessive movement. This truck was specified in the Bill of Materials for DT&I’s order for 100 Greenville 70-Ton drop end gondolas in June 1944. Detroit, Toledo and Ironton was a subsidiary of the Pennsylvania Railroad, who’s Mechanical Department often employed coil-eliptic spring arrangement trucks under various freight cars. This fully assembled, all-brass model by Boo Rim Precision of Korea, follow’s the Gould Corporation plans and features ball bearings, working journal covers, full brake detail, fully equalized construction with working springs, tapered stainless steel axles, and sintered (70% iron and 30% stainless steel) smooth-back wheels with accurate AAR profile. Treads polish to a realistic running appearance. |
