Lettering for 1937 AAR design 10'-0"IH boxcars with post 1954 leaf design

The Canadian National Railway owned 18,215 1937 AAR design boxcars. Built in Canada by 3 major car builders - CCF, ECC and NSC. Deliveries began in
Sepember 1937 and continued thru July, 1945. Roof construction began with the Hutchins roof, then went to the Murphy .at panel and .nally in February
1943, the Murphy raised panel; square and round (W) corner design continued to intersperse throughout the Series This lettering set is designed for the 8,500
cars built between February 1943 and June 1945. (for the beginning series see roster on reverse side of this sheet.)
Lettering and artwork designed and created at Protocraft Decals.

Paint & Lettering: Cars were painted mineral brown: Tru-Color #196. (or Scalecoat #13). After 1943, the underbody, trucks, wheels and brake equipment,
previously painted black, were painted mineral brown as well. Lettering was white stencil paste. The green leaf, was 50/50 of Pantone 363C and 364C. The
maple leaf medallion containing the slightly skewed box “Serves All Canada” was applied between 1945 to 1954 (CN-3a decal sheet). The maple leaf medallion
containing the horizontal box “Serves All Canada” as depicted on car 481536 above, was applied between June 1954 to 1957. Cars with the yellow disk “B” “C”
or “X” indicates the car was suitable for certain quality of contents: “B” indicates the car was designated for lumber, cement, glass, paperboard and LCL freight;
“C” indicating bulk grain and other low grade commodities; “X” indicated the car was in assigned service. By 1960, the CN had over 4,000 cars with doors painted
yellow indicating they were dedicated to newsprint service. (see over)
