Lettering for Howe Truss boxcars - 1930's scheme

Paint & Lettering: Cars were painted entirely boxcar red with black underframe: TCP-923. Lettering was all white stencil paste. The original FRISCO medallion with LINES was later dropped for the more simple FRISCO only, as in the 1951 repaint scheme above. Use TCP-926 after 1946.

Between 1925 and 1930, the FRISCO received 6,500 Howe Truss design boxcars. These cars were wood sided single-sheathedwith an inside height of 8’-6”.
In 1950 many were rebuilt with steel side sheathing (see over). The cars were delivered as follows:

Series 149000-149499, 500 cars, General American Car Co, Lot 2625 - delivered February 1926
Series 160000-160999, 1,000 cars, American Car & Foundry, Lot 633 - delivered November, 1928
Series 161000-161499, 500 cars, General American Car Co, Lot 2666 - delivered February 1928
Series 161500-162499, 1,000 cars, Pullman-Standard Car Co, Lot 5472 - delivered May, 1930
Series 162500-163999, 1,500 cars, American Car & Foundry, Lot 1057 - delivered April, 1930

Note: In 1966, 2,355 of these cars were still in revenue service
