Lettering for 1937 AAR boxcars - as delivered lettering

Between January and September, 1941, the PM received 650 1937 AAR design boxcars. The first 150 were from General American Transpor- tation Corp, Lot 2841, Series 83500-83649 - Youngstown doors. In January, Pullman-Standard delivered another 150 cars, Lot 5647, Series 83650-83799, with 7-panel Superior doors. Also in January, an additonal 200 cars from AC&F, Lot 2128, Series 83800-83999, with Youngstown doors. In July, 100 cars from AC&F, Lot 2238, Series 84100-84199, also with Youngstown doors. In June, GATC delivered 100 cars in Lot 2839, Series 84200-84299, with Youngstown doors. And finally, in September, 100 cars from Pullman-Standard, Lot 5667A, Series 84300-84399.

Paint & Lettering: Cars were painted a red-brown: TCP-921 up to 1942, and TCP-923 for 1946-1959, including truck side frames. Be sure to modify paint color for oxidation with TCP-179. The ends of car 83552 above were coated with black car cement, and probably the underframe as well. Wheels unpainted.
