Lettering for 1940 and 1947 40' autocar

Part Number: IC-7

Price: $8.50

In June 1940, the IC received 500 40’ autocars from Mt. Vernon Car Mfg, assigned Series 37000-37499. These cars had 14’ door openings, 5/5 Dreadnaught

ends, Apex running boards and Ajax hand brake equipment and chain wells, seen under the center of the car above. An accurate model of this car is Protocraft’s
part #3307.
Between June 1946 and mid-1947, the IC built 800 40’ autocars, Series 35500-36299, in their Centralia, Illinois shops of essentially the same design as the Mt.
Vernon cars but with 4/4 IDN ends. An accurate model of this car is Protocraft’s part #3308.
Paint & Lettering: Cars were painted a medium red-brown: Glidden #11 Maroon, matches paint chip for TCP-923. Be sure to modify this color with a slight
amount of TCP-179 to achieve a certain amount of natural oxidation that would be on the prototype. When delivered from Mt. Vernon the 37000 Series roofs
were painted black along with the underbody and truck side frames. The later Centralia shop’s cars Series 35500-36299, had the Glidden red-brown on ends,
sides and roof.
To be correct, the slogan Main Line of Mid-America was not applied until December 3, 1947. By 1951, the 1” lines in the reporting marks were no longer used.
