lettering set for GN’s1937 Tongue & Groove boxcars - 1941 as-delivered scheme

The Great Northern received 8,000 1937 AAR design 10’-0” IH boxcars with 3-1/4” tongue-and-groove siding, primarily to complement the local timber
industry, which accounted for 86% of GN’s freight revenue. Delivery and builder schedule is as follows:

Brass model by Protocraft: PC-3503 - due early 2015
 
Paint & Lettering: Car sides were painted GN’s Mineral Brown. Roof, underframes and running boards were black car cement. Lettering was white stencil paste
and the SEE AMERICA FIRST with the 72” side facing goat. In 1948 cars came with either the black and white side facing goat or the side facing goat. (see decal
set GN-3c) Note AB valve shield below and to left of door. By the 1950’s most of these had been removed.
