lettering for NKP’s 1932 ARA boxcars - 1946 repaint scheme

Part Number: NKP-2c

Price: $8.50

In July of 1934, the New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad took delivery of 500, 50-ton 1932 ARA design steel boxcars from Pullman-Standard, Lot 5499,
Series 13000-13499. These cars had an inside height of 9’-4” and were the rst 1932 ARA design cars to be delivered to any railroad. (the C&O received 650 cars
one month behind the Nickel Plate.)

Paint & Lettering: As delivered, these cars were painted freight car brown (TCP-921) 1934-1942; and TCP-923, 1944-1959 on the sides (note: be sure to mix
in a little of TCP-179 grey to replicate normal fading and oxidatio). Ends, roof, underframe and truck side frames coated with black car cement. Wheels
unpainted.

Reporting Marks and Road numbers were all 9” high. This lettering set is for the as-delivered scheme with the ‘simple’ “ROAD” lettering in it’s name. In 1941
“ROAD” was heightened with the curved leg in the R and the lettering intials NYC&StL were dropped above the reporting marks; and in 1946 the longer legged
R was applied. (see Protocraft decal sheet NKP-2c for this later lettering scheme)

Lettering set designed and created at Protocraft Decals.

Background color shown above is not included in decal sheet
