Between 1923 and 1925, the NP received 5,000 8’-8” IH double-sheathed box cars from 5 dierent builders,

Series 10000-10999, 1000 cars, Western Steel Car Co. - delivered 1923
Series 11000-11999, 1000 cars, American Car & Foundry - delivered 1923
Series 12000-12999, 1000 cars, General American Car Co - delivered 1923
Series 13000-13499, 500 cars, Pullman-Standard - delivered 1925
Series 13500-13999, 500 cars, Pacic Car & Foundry - delivered 1925
Series 14000-14999, 1000 cars, NP shops at Brainerd, MN - delivered 1931-1932

Some cars were still in revenue service in the mid-1960’s. 10490 above displays the 1942-1948 lettering scheme with the 3-ft diameter monad medallion. Car 12855 shows the post-1948 4-ft diameter monad and “Main Street of the Northwest” slogan. Lettering designed by Ted Culotta with artwork created by Protocraft Decals.

Paint & Lettering: Cars were painted NP mineral-brown: Dupont Tuf-Coat Brown. Tru-Color #193. Lettering all white stencil paste.
