In March 1944, the SSW took delivery of 100, 40 ft double-door auto cars with a 10’-6” IH design with 5/5 Dreadnaught ends. Built by SSW shops and assigned series numbers 46200-46299. (Model is available as Protocraft’s PC-3309)
In February, 1947, the SSW’s shops built 150 cars with a 10’-6” IH design with 4/4 Improved Dreadnaught ends. Assigned series numbers 46300-46449 (Model is available as Protocraft’s PC-3310). Both were delivered with the earlier lettering scheme (see Protocraft Decals sheet SSW-7a ). In 1949 the large lettering COTTON BELT began to be used, hence all COTTON BELT lettering was a repaint scheme.
Paint & Lettering: Car bodies and truck sideframes were painted SP red-brown: TCP 923. Underbody painted with black car cement. Wheels were unpainted and allowed to rust and gather a coating of axle grease. Lettering designed and created at Protocraft Decals
