Lettering for 40' autocars - as delivered and 1947 scheme

Between 1942 and 1948, the GM&O received 180 40’ double-door autocars from AC&F as follows:

Series 35200-35249 - 50 cars - built 6-42 - ACF Lot 2345 14’ YTD 10’-6” 5/5 DN
Series 35250-35299 - 50 cars - built 1-47 - ACF Lot 2951 14’ YTD 10’-6’ 4/4 IDN
Series 35300-35379 - 80 cars - built 1-48 - ACF Lot 3142 14’ YTD 10’-6” 4/4 IDN

Paint & Lettering: Cars painted with Sherwin Williams Synthetic Brown: paint chip matches TCP-923; ends, roof, trucks and underframe - black. Lettering white stencil paste. Note the as-delivered lettering style versus the 1953 repaint style - much heavier letters, the Rebel Route banner was dropped and dimensional data went back to 2” from 3”
