lettering set for UP’s 1943 G-50-11 GS gons - 1947 Armour Yellow scheme
In March 1943, the UP received 1000 Class G-50-11 steel frame general service drop bottom gondola cars of 50-ton capacity (1874 cubic feet), from Pullman-Standard’s Bessemer, Alabama shops. These were assigned road numbers as Series 64000-64999.
Paint & Lettering: Cars were painted UP’s oxide red. As delivered in 1943, lettering was all white stencil paste. Cars repainted after July 1947 applied Armour yellow lettering. In 1956, 20” billboard lettering was applied - see Protocraft Decal set UP G-50-11(c).
