Previous Return to list of all 40’ boxcars in 1:48 scale Next yellow lettering for Monon's 1958 all black boxcar scheme
In April, 1942, 300 cars of the 1937 AAR design were delivered from Pullman-Standard’s Michigan City plant, Lot 5707, and assigned road numbers 9150-9449. Random cars in their way to the repaint shop in 1958 were painted all black with yellow lettering. This only lasted a couple of years and then were repainted all brown with white lettering again. According to Mont Switzer, Bob Schultz made a list of all the cars he saw during this period with the all black car and yellow lettering. They are: 9025, 9095, 9102, 9107, 9294 and 9440. While more than likely there were many more painted in this scheme, these car numbers are the only ones noted. Background color shown above is not included in decal sheet |
